Mission

The mission of The CARES Clinic is to provide free access to primary health care for the underserved and disadvantaged of the greater Charleston metropolitan area. The belief of The CARES Clinic is that all residents of South Carolina should have access to quality health care regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, immigration or socioeconomic status. Accordingly, our aims are:

  • To provide quality preventive and episodic primary health care to the uninsured.
  • To understand health care needs through service to the community.
  • To expose students early in their training to the nuances of providing patient care to a population with diverse and ever-changing health care needs.
  • To offer students and patients a mutually beneficial and educational experience.
  • To foster cooperation of students, healthcare professionals, and members of the community in addressing health care disparities.
  • To use a multidisciplinary approach to addressing health care issues.
