ECCO (East Cooper Community Outreach) donated the use of the free medical clinic facility, graciously allowing CARES to devote its resources to patients in need. The need for increased funding, medications, medical supplies, and medical volunteers remains great. There are several areas you can help the clinic continue to provide optimal health care to all patients in need.
1) Volunteer
To accomodate our growing patient base, the CARES Clinic has recently opened its doors on Monday nights, in addition to Tuesday and Thursday night. Thus, we are in need of primary care physicians to volunteer at the clinic, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and other general specialties. Volunteering entails overseeing and educating students in addition to treating patients. Most physicians volunteer at least once every four to six weeks.
2) Accept Referrals
Patients at CARES are in great need of specialty care such as orthopedics, surgery, dermatology, GI, and others unavailable at the clinic. By periodically accepting a referral, you can make a tremendous difference. Most specialists accept between one and six referrals per year.
3) Make a Donation
If you would like to support the clinic financially, you may do so on our website or please contact Dr. Wanda Gonsalves at 843-792-6687 or gonsalvw@musc.edu. Donations to CARES are tax-deductible.
